The Institute for Cultural Evolution changes its name
to the Institute for Developmental Philosophy
BOULDER, CO: Founded in 2013, the Institute for Cultural Evolution nonprofit today announced that it is changing its name to the Institute for Developmental Philosophy.
For its first 10 years of operation, the Institute focused on ameliorating hyperpolarization. But since 2023, the organization has focused primarily on developing its core philosophy, which is known as developmental philosophy.
Developmental Philosophy is an emerging body of thought that explores the deeper meanings of evolution, with a special emphasis on noosphere evolution—the evolution of human history. Developmental philosophy is an umbrella term that includes process philosophy, integral philosophy, and related philosophies that recognize the moral or spiritual significance of the universe’s ceaseless process of becoming. Its most prominent proponents include Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881–1955) and Alfred North Whitehead (1861–1947).
The Institute’s name change is designed to better reflect its current mission, which is to advance humanity’s understanding of noosphere evolution. Toward this end, the Institute has commissioned a book by its cofounder, Steve McIntosh, entitled Truth Emerging, which will be published by Orbis Books in 2026. The Institute is also working with the Center for Process Studies and the Center for Chistogenesis to co-convene a public conference called The Future of Meaning. Updates on the progress of the forthcoming book and conference will be announced in future media releases.
Institute cofounder Steve McIntosh said: “We’re excited about our name change, which expresses our higher purpose of using new forms of philosophy to help bring about positive social change.”
The Institute for Developmental Philosophy’s Board of Directors includes prominent entrepreneurs such as John Mackey (Whole Foods), John Street (Pax8), and Rand Stagen (Stagen Academy).
